Here’s a great textile design company straight from one of my favorite blogs, The Style Files. Saana ja Olli is a Finnish company with a penchant for contemporary twists on traditional patterns and old fashioned looks.

Union Made is a good representation of a style trend (movement?) out in force in certain quarters of San Francisco right now. There must already be a name for it but I’d describe it as an aestheticization of the rustic and the rugged — the masculine counterpart to so many of the more feminine “vintage” trends of late. Of course the irony is that the look is mostly cultivated by city dwellers with money, but that’s another story. Above, an indigo dip dyed bandana — one of several textile-related goods for sale on their website.

Balakrishna Madana’s colorful first textile collection takes inspiration from Mughal architecture and design — and maybe just a bit of 1960′s pop.

The website of Boston’s Keiko Gallery provides an excellent portal into the work of over a dozen Japanese textile artists, including the multi-generational work of Katayama Bunzaburo — makers of traditional kimonos as well as very contemporary shibori scarves (pictured above). Click here for Keiko Gallery’s summary of the shibori technique and here for the World Shibori Network.
P.S. The Bulletins page has been updated!

It may be a month old already but I’ll never get tired of the above cover shot from The World of Interiors (November 2011). It’s the absolute quintessence of what could be called the Tiny Nest impulse — an impulse that comes particularly alive during the holiday season, when the cozy and the comfortable take top billing. It’s humble, frayed and mismatched — but it’s completely inviting. And bedecked with textiles of course.

Rounding out a bout of seasonal Etsy indulgence are Bloomsong, Beyond Her and Handprint by Sima. Each offer beautiful hand-printed table linens — a perfect gift.
